The Cherry On Top: 2/11/24

Happy Sunday & welcome back to The Cherry On Top, a weekly roundup of the best parts of my week. This past week was a little bit of a rough one, with a few days that felt gloomy and anxiety provoking, but that just makes this week’s Cherry On Top that much more important; there’s always something to celebrate and it’s always possible to find a cherry on top.

Favorite thing I cooked: Seared Strip Steak with Steamed Vegetables

Tonight for Sunday supper I decided to make steak, which isn’t a typical choice for me. I love eating it but rarely cook it, and this was very easy and turned out delicious. I seasoned it with sea salt and seared it in a hot pan (I love the brand Our Place) with Kerrygold butter. I added thyme and garlic, and basted the steak every few minutes to keep it flavorful. Once it was done I took some French beans & carrots that I steamed, and tossed them in the pan sauce. This is such a satisfying dinner and feels like a perfect Sunday meal.

Favorite Moment: Bagel Brunch for Jess’s Birthday

This weekend we celebrated one of my best friends, Jess, with a pre-birthday bagel brunch which was amazing. I was looking forward to it all week and it was so sweet to connect with old friends and enjoy quality time with the birthday girl. She’s the absolute best and celebrating her is so easy!

Favorite Activity: Corepower Yoga

I’ve been loving Corepower lately as my workout of choice. I do the C2 level and it’s tough but relaxing at the same time. It’s also awesome to disconnect for an hour and be in the studio without my phone. If you haven’t tried this hot yoga I highly recommend, the instructors are awesome and you’re guaranteed to leave with a serious sweat.

Favorite Meal Out: Kiki’s with Friends

On Friday night I went to dinner at Kiki’s, one of my favorite spots, on the Lower East Side with my best college friends. This greek restaurant is amazing for small groups since all of the dishes are perfect for sharing. They also have great wine options that are extremely inexpensive. We shared a bottle of the white wine pictured here; usually i’m partial to red but it paired really well with the food. We shared Tzatziki, grilled octopus, zucchini chips, salad with romaine, feta, and dill, and roasted chicken with lemon potatoes. They don’t take reservations but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Thanks for stopping by The Flour Child! Wishing you a week with several moments that feel like the cherry on top 🍒 See you next Sunday.
