Laser Wolf: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Laser Wolf, located in Williamsburg at The Hoxton Hotel, delivered a colorful, exciting, delicious Israeli spread. My sister had previously dined at this authentic Israeli hot spot, so we knew we were in for a great meal. I’d definitely recommend coming with a group, because aside from the vibes being upbeat and vibrant, the food is extremely easy to share between the “salatim” starter course and the wonderful array of proteins for main courses. Laser Wolf is priced fixed, so you have a set price for the protein or main veg that you order, and then that includes all of the starter dishes and dessert. You can also refill any of the starter salads/spreads throughout the meal for no charge.

We started off with the “salatim” which means salad in Hebrew, and this course was so representative of everything that Israeli cuisine is. It was bold yet fresh, with deep flavors of the Mediterranean with some unique twists thrown in there. Our favorites from this spread included mushrooms with sour cherry, butter beans with harissa, pineapple and celery, cabbage with fennel and schug, and the hummus (of course!). This hummus was straight out of Tel Aviv, with a smoothness and perfect flavor that’s hard to find outside of the Middle East. Between the fluffy pita, the fresh salads, the savory and sweet spreads, and the traditional hummus, this truly blew everyone at the table away.

For the main courses my sister and mom shared the whole branzino with ginger and tomato, and my dad and I shared the chicken skewers and the lamb kofta. This whole fish was absolutely stunning, dressed with tons of herbs and lemon, and the skin of the fish just golden brown. The fish also came whole but deboned, which I feel is rare to see at restaurants and just makes the dining experience so much nicer to not have to remove the bones yourself at the table. The flavors of the ginger and tomato really harmonized as one, and this fish was a complete hit. I can’t recommend this dish enough, even if you’re usually a meat eater. The meats were great, with a perfect cook and really lovely seasoning. I’m usually a chicken fan and it was spot on, but the lamb kofta was remarkable. Maybe it’s because I don’t eat a lot of lamb, or maybe Laser Wolf is just great at everything they do.

We finished the meal with dessert, which was brown sugar soft serve with tahini, sour cherries, and sesame crunch. You can quote me on this when I say that this was the dessert of my dreams. If you love salty and sweet, this is heaven in a cup, and aside from the flavor it was also the perfect portion. I guarantee you that when you leave Laser Wolf, you’ll have a happy stomach, a whole heart, and a smile plastered across your face. The service was incredible, the food never missed, and the ambiance of Laser Wolf was one to remember. L’chaim!
