The Cherry On Top: January 18th, 2026
We’re back for another edition of The Cherry On Top, a weekly roundup of the highlights of my week. This week was special, filled with seeing a lot of different friends for much needed quality time after the holidays! It was also filled with consistent routines that showed me how I can fill my cup all of the time rather than just once in a while.
Favorite Meal I Cooked: Japanese Sweet Potato with Toppings
While it may sound random, this loaded baked Japanese sweet potato topped with ground beef, cottage cheese, pickled shallots, jalapeño, and chives was nutritionally dense, filling, and so delicious. It was reminiscent of a twice baked potato in the best way. I highly recommend this if you’re big into ingredient prep; I baked the potatoes in advance and had half at a time, making it a 5 minute meal to put together each night.
Favorite Activity: Barre Class
I’ve been trying a bunch of different classes at my gym and this has been my favorite by far. I loved the instructor and she used such a fun playlist, making the class go by very quickly! We did about half the class on a mat and the rest using the barre, with some other equipment like 2 lb weights, a glider, and a band. This class was lovely because it was snowing and inside the studio everybody was mesmerized by the weather happening outside. It felt like a snow globe!
Favorite Meal Out: Yellow Rose
Beer Cheese Queso, Chips, Spicy Margarita
Gem Lettuce with Dilly Ranch, Radishes, Tortilla Strips, and Hominy
I’ve had an obsession with trying Yellow Rose for several months now and I finally made a reservation with Hannah to check it out. It completely lived up to the hype! Favorites included this beer cheese queso we shared — alongside an absolutely perfect spicy margarita, tajin rim obviously — and the gem lettuce salad I got for my main. I cannot recommend this spot enough for a Friday night out; there’s really something for everyone on the menu (including dairy free options), the space has a lively atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly warm. 4.3/5 flowers from The Flour Child!
Favorite Moment: Wine Bar on a Week Night
So many fun moments of this week but my favorite had to be wine night with my girls — We checked out Pierre Loti right by Gramercy Park and split a bottle of the Montepulciano. We all needed a real belly laugh and that’s exactly what we get when we’re together. One thing to note for this wine bar is it was pretty loud inside; that being said it was a Thursday night so other week days may be a little more calm.
Favorite Item: New Papier Planner
Completely in love with my new planner from Papier! This is a yearly planner with calendars, weekly blocks, goal planning, and more. I love how it assists with organization but also just love the aesthetic of it; I've been so into brown and blue together lately. Will be taking this with me anywhere & everywhere!
Thanks for stopping by The Flour Child! Wishing you a week with several moments that feel like the cherry on top 🍒 See you next Sunday.
